To be in that glorious state of enchantment.
Feeling that the world is full and brimming of endless possibilities. I remember this feeling as a child, the brilliant sparkly happiness that would pulse through my body.
Finding so much JOY and aliveness in simple activities like rock climbing with my grandfather, turning over stones to see what creature might be there, crab balls on the beach…the night before my birthday, a day out in town with my Mum…. ALL so full of wonder and enchantment.
Why do we loose this? Why do children have such a brilliant sense that anything is possible and somehow as we grow older we willingly give this glorious state up for dead. And how, more importantly, do we get it back?
Is it all part of the RUSH? That we are just too damn busy with our ‘adult’ lives and daily responsibilities that we’ve been willing to give this up?
Are you willing to live a life without wonder? I’m not. So…..
How do we cultivate wonder as a daily habit?
This is not something I’ve figured out entirely……but what I do have is a sense, a sense that PRESENCE & PLAY are vital. Allowing our imagination to freely explore and create, without the bounds of our modern day culture that has placed so many limiting beliefs and restrictions around what is REAL and possible.
Dream again, play again, allow your imagination to be free. Take off the lens that says ‘the world is like this and this’ – allow yourself to see the mystery, be open to the possibility that the world is full and brimming of MAGIC.
We must reanimate our minds and hearts in order to reanimate the world in which we see.
It is always in the eye of the beholder.
Walk out in nature today, be it a forest, looking up at the sky, sitting by the ocean, the bush, a local park or beside a tree on the footpath…..and take some deep breaths. Feel yourself present with the energy around you, feel yourself communing with nature – there is an aliveness here, there is a relationship being experienced between YOU and the earth. We are, after all, part of the same ecology.
Allow yourself to OPEN to the possibility that the veils can slip away in a moment, and you could be welcomed into the enchanted state of WONDER – looking with the eyes of a 5 year old. Leaving behind the rational, analytical adult brain and really SEE.
See the extraordinary in what our adult brains have labelled ordinary.
None of this is ordinary.
